Donation helps rescue St Mary's Church
St. Mary's Church
On Tuesday 25th August St. Mary's Church, the most beautiful historical artefact in Hitchin, was defaced and violated as the result of an act of vandalism.
A few weeks later an anonymous donation was made to the Church of £10,000 in order to repair and restore the beautiful stained glass windows that had been so badly vandalised. One of the windows was in memory of those who had lost their lives in the first world war and was actually hand painted in 1916 at the height of the war itself.
The whole of the Hitchin Community was shocked at this mindless act of vandalism.
However, the donation made reinforces the fact that there are many good people in the world but the good people rarely get noticed. This incredible act of generosity will go such a long way to restoring the damage done to St. Mary's.
On a personal note St. Mary's has been my garden for 17 years. It is the most tranquil place I know of. It will continue to be so for many years yet to come.
